A sweet family...Dad, Mom, two kids - the youngest in the 8th grade. Mom has cancer, textbook case actually because this form of cancer has never been caught as early has hers was. Everything seemed to be going well...the weekly chemo treatments seemed to be working and then BAM! Tumor is back and pretty large...it will have to come out, but things do not look good.
A college friend and roommate...Dad has been a smoker and now has an inoperable brain tumor. Not much they can do, but tried chemo anyway. It has now been stopped because it is not working. Cancer is spreading, tumors are doubling in size...he has become a 90-year-old man overnight, to quote my friend. Her mom has to help him with everything because he can no longer do things for himself. He cannot see...his memory is deteriorating. Her mom does not think he will be with them much longer. So my friend is losing her father at the age of 28...
Help me, God, not to focus on the reasons we may never know nor understand, on the things that make no sense to our feeble and limited minds. Instead help us to focus on what we know is true: Your presence, Your redemption, Your peace that passes our understanding, Your purpose...Your love. Help me to be a comforting friend during their time of loss.
